Transportation Changes
If your child will be going home differently than normal, please send in a note that morning. We always want to be sure the kids get sent home the correct way! Also, students are not allowed to ride home on another student's bus, per county policy.
Birthdays
I am happy to celebrate your child's birthday in the room this year! You may send in a treat if you like, to be eaten at snack time, or you can bring it in during lunch time in the cafeteria. Our lunch is from 1:00-1:30, and the kids usually go outside for lunch recess around 1:25. If you're doing it during snack, please only send in things that can be easily passed out. I've asked the kids not to bring in round cookie cakes, because these are truly hard to cut evenly!! We have no students with allergies this year. Only items that are store bought are allowed per county policy. We have 25 students. If your child's birthday falls over a track out or holiday, you may send the treat in before we leave, or when we return.
Absences
Per our school policy, please send in a note (or email) for an excused absence, at least 2 days after the absence. Excused absences include illness, injury, and medical appointments. If you have an educational opportunity that you'd like to try to get as an approved absence, please ask the office for a form, and fill it out before the absence occurs. Missing school for sporting events, or family trips won't be excused absences, unless you get the educational opportunity form approved prior to your trip.
For unexcused absences, I am not required to give make-up work. A lot of the activities we do in our classroom aren't easily made up outside of class due to the activity type, and materials used. If your child is sick, I will catch them up when they return. Sometimes I am able to gather homework and send home with a sibling, but if they missed the lesson in class, they may not be able to do the homework on their own. You can refer to our school and county handbook if you have any questions about the make-up work policy.
